    Coaching at Winchester Running Club is led by Nick Anderson and Andy Parkinson as part of our exciting partnership with RunningWithUs.com. They are supported by a qualified and enthusiastic team of assistant coaches, run leaders and coaches in running fitness who help to cover sessions and guide your running journey. 

    Our motto and belief is simple…

    ‟If you want to be a better runner tomorrow, you are a performance athlete.”

    This is therefore all of us and we coach beginners, those looking to get faster and Olympians. Everybody matters and every run counts…and we also know that smiling helps you to run faster!

    We also have a fortnightly training newsletter which you will receive as a full member highlighting training activity over the next two weeks and advising on ideas for your training. It will also list races and events coming up soon and any important news. Please come and join us all at the locations below each week for WRC group sessions. Please also feel free to ask the coaches questions about your training. We are here to help!

    Each week we have a mixture of informal and formal training events that members are free to participate in:

    Weekly Schedule - Summer (April to August)

    Monday

    7:00 pm Evening online group core and strength session with Andy Parkinson 7pm 

    Tuesday - Repetition Training

    • Junior and middle distance athletes –  5:45 – 7:00 pm at Gaterfield, Garnier Road. Repetition and interval training for junior athletes. All speeds welcome. Please bring spikes and/or off road shoes.
    • Senior Athletes – 7:00 – 8:20 pm at Gaterfield, Garnier Road – Repetition and interval training for adult athletes targeting races from 3km to 10km. All speeds welcome. Please jog before either in the area or around the field ready to start drills and group warm-up from 7:00 pm.

    Note: Following heavy rain, these sessions may be relocated to St Catherine’s Hill towpath or Winchester South Park and Ride; please check the club WhatsApp group for updates.

    Thursday - Threshold Training

    • Junior and middle distance athletes –  5:45 – 7:00 pm at Gaterfield, Garnier Road. Threshold training for junior athletes and those focused on middle distance track events. All speeds welcome. Please bring spikes and/or off road shoes.
    • Senior athletes – 7:00 – 8:20 pm at Gaterfield, Garnier Road – Threshold training for adult athletes training for 5km – Marathon. All speeds welcome. As the Cross Country seaons and autumn road race events start this session will also incorporate longer reps and hill trianing. Please jog before either in the area or around the field ready to start drills and group warm-up from 7:00 pm.

    Saturday

    9:00 am - Parkrun - You'll always find a contingent of WRC members at Winchester North Walls 
    9:00 - 10.30 am (not every weekend so check the newsletter or ask) at  Badger Farm meadows. Cross county repetitions, hills and threshold training. Please bring spikes and/or off road shoes. This session is available to all but particularly those focused on cross country and long term prep for summer middle distance/track

    Sunday

    Various long run groups to join all leaving from locations across Winchester. Check the WhatsApp group and ask.

    7:00 - 8:15 pm at River Walk & the Weirs. Threshold & hill repetitions on the road for Senior athletes training for 5k - marathon. All speeds welcome.
