Held at the South Winchester Golf Club, the first Awards event for Winchester Running Club saw nearly 100 members and their family/friends get together to celebrate the first year of the Club. It was encouraging to see the both Junior and Senior sections of the Club coming together to share the experience, a key part of the Club’s ethos.
The Awards committee were keen to ensure that the awards presented were reflective of every area of the club and having such a large number of amazing athletes in the club, made for some long conversations! It was great to see the Juniors, founding and more recent members coming together over a meal, drink and even getting up on the dance floor. For those who left early, it can be confirmed that both coaches were strutting their stuff towards the end of the evening!
It also gave us an opportunity to remember Ian Parker, a founding member of the Club, who passed away, just over a year ago.
Some highlights of the evening:
- As always the hotly contested Harestock Handicap winner, which for the second year running went to Paul Oxley.
- A quick interview with the Female Multi-sport award winner, India Lee, a professional Athlete who won the Miami T100, of course the highlight of her year was the WRC Christmas dinner!
- Having a live link to Sarah Gurney the winner of the Club Woman award, who was visiting family in Ireland.
- Revealing the winner of the TCS London marathon place, Matt Kurton who is getting his Mum ready to go and support him next April.
