Saturday 13th December saw many of the members and their family/friends come together to celebrate the Club’s second year, at the South Winchester Golf Club.
The Awards committee were keen to ensure that, again, the awards presented were reflective of every area of the club and chose to refine some of the categories from last year. Grouping the Relays, the on-road races and off-road races into 3 categories, with special mentions for some of the longer distance events.
They also added an Outstanding Club Contribution Award, voted for by the members and it was heartwarming to see the comments made about those nominated who have obviously made an impact on their fellow runners experience at the Club. This award went to Matt Smallman who without his skills we would not have the website, scanning app for training or payment options, available at the touch of a button.
A Team award was introduced after the Mixed Vets team came 1st in their category at the Cotswold Way Relay.
Also due to increased membership numbers, the Club was allocated 2 TCS London Marathon places, with a live draw taking place, overseen by Tamsin, our Chair. See below for winners.
Steve Oliver presented the winner of the 14th Harestock Handicap – which went to a very deserving Pete Sansome, who made it a family affair as apart from running all 12, his son Jack also completed all 12 races, coming just behind his Dad on the leaderboard.
The Coaches presented the Junior Club person to Seth Noott, a hard working athlete that the coaches can rely on to support in every aspect of the Junior section, from encouraging others to join, to ensuring training goes smoothly. The club has a growing contingent of Juniors, with an array of achievements between them, across many different distances both on and off road.
Club Man was awarded to George Belfield, who unfortunately couldn’t make it to the evening, he received his award at the Christmas relays earlier in the week. One of the events that George organises, in his quiet, calm way is the Welsh Castles Relay…earning the unofficial badge of “herding cats”!
Club Woman went to Erin Willmers, I’m not sure she was expecting Rob’s impromptu interview! Representing the Club across various events and distances, throughout the year, she brought home PBs in the 3000m, 5k and 10k in just 6 days, a highlight of her year, amongst many other successes
