The second CC6 race of the season took place on the 12 October at Ocknell Campsite in the New Forest. Despite a busy weekend of race fixtures the club presented 21 competiors for this 4.5 mile trail run through undulating forest and heathland.

For those of you unfamiliar with the league, its a cross between a park run and x country race. More friendly than traditional races but (perhaps) a step up from the parkruns will know and love (which are of course not races). Its only open to member clubs (still free to you) you just need to bring your club vest and a pair of trail shoes (no spikes please). Traditionally the league is aimed at not so fast runners (sub 6 minute milers were excluded) but that rule has been waived in recent times in the spirit of inclusion.
The 16 men of WRC competed with an improving male team reaching 2nd on the day (top 4 to score) with Guy Brayne coming in 5th and successfully managing to download his mandatory Parkrun barcode in time! (you do need to register before the race… or at least before the race officials go home on the day). Able support by Pete Sansome (8th), Julian Mann (13th) and Dan Hoare (18th). Pete (V50), Julian (V45) and Martyn West (V70) topped their age catergories. Martyn holding off a chasing Steve Goodwin in the gravel and sand of Stoney Cross plain.
The 5 women of WRC made their mark with an improving 4th position led by Elli Swire (5th), Liz Marshall (20th) alledgely recovering from a Saturday race and Simone Parker (35th) taking the strain effortlessly.
