Seeking some blue sky and vitamin D, Justin Corrie, Dave Gaskell, James Moore, and Rick Munro took part in the Valencia Marathon on Sunday, 3rd December. The weather was perfect for running, the course was flat and fast, and the field was loaded with high-quality runners. We learned the marathon distance remains as brutal as ever, though Dave “the King” Gaskell managed a 2-minute negative split to finish in 2:46, off an injury-hit training session. Impressive! Justin and James managed to keep the wheels from falling off in the last 10k (though they loosened considerably!), finishing around 2:53. Rick finished in a very respectable 3:34 despite recent heel injuries. The organisation and crowds were not a patch on London, but resting up in the sun at the end of the race was magic.
We came back with great memories of a fantastic weekend (the first of many WRC marathon away trips), having eaten a lot of Italian pasta and, of course, topped off by a fantastic Paella and Rioja after the race. All WRC supporters were out in force and joined together for post-race celebrations. 😃
The support at training and by the fantastic WRC community more generally (WhatsApp messages, dot watching during the race and in-person support) will live long in our memories – thank you 🙏❤️
